Should You Buy A 5Th Wheel Or A Travel Trailer?

When you are looking for a motorhome, you might notice that there are two types on the road. One is a travel trailer, which is pulled by another vehicle. Another is a 5th wheel. Each option can allow you to set down your RV, and you're also able to live in each.

Size

Fifth wheels can be larger than travel trailers. This can make it more difficult to drive a travel trailer. However, you may find that a 5th wheel does not provide you with an adequate amount of space. The 5th wheel comes with an upstairs area, which provides you with a place to sleep. Many fun features can be added to a 5th wheel that make it more similar to an apartment, such as a fireplace, dishwasher, and a washer/dryer. These features are useful when camping far away from facilities.

Weight

The lighter weight of the travel trailer means that you'll use less energy when transporting it. For some individuals, especially those who are traveling alone, living in a small space is not considered as objectionable. For example, if you will be spending most of your time in a tent or hiking, or if you are exploring the city, you may find it unnecessary to have a lot of space.

Driveability

Despite being smaller, the travel trailer can be more difficult to transport because of where the hitch point is located. You will not have as good a turning radius as with a 5th wheel, despite the 5th wheel potentially being larger and heavier. However, because of where the trailer hitches, it can be easier to back up with a travel trailer.

Storage Space

Depending on how much you are bringing with you, the travel trailer might not have enough storage space. For example, even if you won't be living in your 5th wheel for very long, you might need the extra storage space for all the things you'll be bringing with you, such as your camping supplies.

Expense

Travel trailers are likely to be purchased more often because they are less expensive. You might want to see travel trailers as the default, while a 5th wheel would be an upgrade you might consider if you can afford it and if you have a good reason to purchase one. But regardless of which you choose, you'll find travel much easier and will have a lot of fun in a motorhome.
