Family UTV Use – What You Need For Safety

Getting out into nature and ripping it up a bit on an ATV or dirt bike can be a great family activity. All kinds of thrills and excitement can be shared. One thing that families can take advantage of today that they couldn't years ago is the ability to get the entire family of four into one machine – a UTV side-by-side! Now, you don't have to worry about keeping it slow enough for the kids to keep up, or worrying that they're going to crash going through sketchy terrain. If you're looking into buying a 4-person UTV for the family, there's some gear that you'll need to go with it. Here, you'll find a short list of the gear your family needs to optimize enjoyment and safety while riding the family UTV.

Helmets for Everyone!

It is essential that everyone riding in the UTV wear a helmet. You don't have to crash for head injuries to occur – a rock could fly up, a limb could clip you – you just never know what can happen at any given time. Buy everyone a full-face helmet to wear while riding.

Tip: Make sure to use the measuring guidelines when ordering helmets. If they don't fit snugly, they won't protect the brain from injuries upon impact.

Tear-Away Goggles

Goggles are needed to protect the eyes, but they can sometimes make it difficult to see after some time riding. As dirt and debris coat the lenses, visibility can be reduced to nothing. Rather than having to stop and clean the lenses, tear-away goggles make it possible for you to remove just a single layer of clear plastic that coats the lenses. Then, your vision is as clear as it was before you hit the marsh.

Long Sleeves and Pants

Your skin should always be covered when riding. This is to help reduce injuries sustained by flying debris and to help keep the skin on your body in the event of a crash. Jeans and thick, long-sleeve shirts will do very well against debris and things, but if you're doing some hard-core riding, look into gear that is armored to protect your back, neck, elbows, and ribs from injures.

Talk with your family about getting out there on the UTV together safely. Make sure everyone understands the rules of safety when riding the UTV, and then, get out there and create some family memories that you'll all cherish forever. Click here to learn more.
