What Makes A Car Rare?

Many people have heard of rare cars, but don't exactly know what they mean. Well, it's not a single thing that makes a car rare; several things can qualify a car as such. Below are some of the reasons a car might be considered rare.

Unique Features

A car can be rare because it has a unique feature that is not in any other make and model. For example, if someone designs a car that runs on water, it will be unique in the contemporary decade because current cars don't run on water. The more novel the feature is, the higher will be the value of the car with regards to its rarity.

Limited Production

Some cars are only manufactured for a short while before their production run ends. This may be by design or due to unavoidable circumstances on the part of the manufacturer. For example, a car manufacturer might decide to produce a few units of a specific make and model to increase their appeal to a targeted market. Another example is if a startup car manufacturer produces a few units of cars before it runs out of business.

Age

Old cars that have survived for a long time are usually considered rare. This is even more so if the surviving car has retained all or most of its original features. Even rarer are very old cars that have only clocked a few miles on their odometers.

Special Factory Modification

In some cases, a car manufacturer makes a few modifications to one of its makes and models. For example, make and model that is only available with automatic transmissions may be produced with a manual transmission. Another example is if a turbocharged engine is switched to a naturally aspirated engine in a few units of the car.

Famous History

Sometimes it is not the car, but rather the history to which it is associated, that makes a car rare; for example, a car may be considered rare if:

  • It was owned by a famous person, such as a president
  • It was used in a famous crime
  • It won a famous race
  • It appeared in a famous film or television show

The above are just a few examples; any rare or famous history or accomplishment can make a car rare. The more famous the history is, the rarer the car will be.

Note that many rare cars cost more than comparable (in other parameters) cars do. Also, you might have to spend a little more time to land a rare car than you would with a conventional car. For more information, contact companies like Edd Rogers Valley Ford.
